Mindfulness Writing Challenge: Week 1 Dr. V is Moving and Reading Derrick Bell

Dear Mindful Writers/Creatives/Artists,

Welcome to the first week of our 30x30x30 Mindfulness Writing Group! This journey we embark on together invites us to deepen our connection to ourselves and the world around us through the power of mindfulness, movement, and the written word.

And...I have two book projects due, three articles, and two keynotes...🫣...I tricked you all into becoming a part of my mindfulness team. #ujima #nia

Week 1 Theme: Rooted in Awareness

As we step into this first week, let's anchor ourselves in awareness. Awareness is the gentle whisper within that calls us to be present, to observe our thoughts, and to embrace each moment as it unfolds. It's from this space of awareness that our writing, reflections, and movement can naturally arise, guide, and nurture us.

Our Focus this Week:

  • Mindfulness Writing: Dedicate 10 - 15 minutes each day to writing about your observations of the present moment. Use this space to explore your surroundings, your feelings, or even the simple act of breathing. Allow your pen to flow without judgment, capturing the essence of now.
  • Journaling Prompt: What does 'awareness' mean to you, and how does it manifest in your daily life? Write about a moment of awareness you experienced today, no matter how small or insignificant.
  • Reading Suggestion: Delve into a chapter of a favorite book on mindfulness (Boss Chick Guide to Meditation) or choose a new one that resonates with your personal journey. Reflect on how the words speak to your current state of being.
  • Movement Practice: Spend at least 30 minutes engaging in mindful movement. Whether it's a gentle yoga flow, a walk in nature, or simply stretching with intention, invite awareness into each movement, honoring your body’s wisdom.

Reflection Point:

As you move through these practices, notice any shifts in your perception or emotional landscape. Are there new insights emerging? How does bringing awareness into your everyday activities transform them? For example, I've learned that I am better at staying committed to projects when I have people like you all watching and when folks I believe in actually feel that I am a great source of inspiration. #gratitude

Your unique presence and insights enrich our shared journey.

Let us know how your first week unfolds by sharing your reflections or stories. Y/Our experiences are the threads that weave our community together, inspiring and supporting one another as we grow.

In the words of the great poet and writer Alice Walker: "Meditation is like the cloak of the good thief. You find a corner or somewhere where you can actually entertain your own self and your own soul, and understand what your work [is] here."

Come on, let's re-member what our work is!! Ase'.

Looking forward to our journey together,

Dr. V
